Professional Summary

Personal Statement
I was determined to become the first person in my family to go to medical school, but my lack of confidence seemed to chip away at my being. However, with time, I learned to transform my sense of "otherness" into something positive. It led me to develop a passion for community service, mentorship, and activism that has shaped my interests in internal medicine to this day. The sense of "otherness" that had once enveloped me, also gifted me with an avenue to connect with others. As the co-leader of ‘Sister2Sister’ (an alternative sentencing program for at-risk youth), I was able to mentor eight young-women from disadvantaged backgrounds (some of which included physical and/or emotional violence), fostering a safe environment for them to build healthy relationships and discuss core issues without fear of judgement. In addition, as co-chair of the Women’s Center, I was not only responsible for leading my student group but, often found myself mediating between the various cultural groups in the midst of growing tensions on campus. This role ultimately led to the honor of being awarded the “Community Builder of the Year” award.

Why I Chose Cincinnati
I was drawn to Cincinnati because of its genuine desire to constantly seek change and evolve. Change is difficult, no matter how small. However, a willingness to accept this challenge is also a powerful tool to drive people forward. I am confident that Cincinnati will give me the skills and opportunities that are necessary to become a physician that can adapt to the challenges before me.
