Professional Summary

Michael D. Wigton, M.D., is currently an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.  Dr. Wigton is American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery-Board Certified and is a fellowship trained Orthopaedic Hand surgeon including microvascular surgery and reconstruction.  He treats disorders of the upper extremity extending from the brachial plexus through the fingertips.  Dr. Wigton has a specific interest in traumatic disorders, post-traumatic complications, arthritic disorders of the hand and upper extremity, upper extremity vascular disorders, peripheral nerve injury/repair and thoracic outlet syndrome. 
 
Dr. Wigton is proud to have roots in the Tri-State area as he completed his medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (2010) after completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Dayton (2006).  He went on to complete his orthopaedic surgery internship and residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (2010-2015).  His subspecialty training was completed in Hand, Upper Extremity, and Microvascular surgery at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, North Carolina (2015-2016).  He joined the UC Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine in 2016 and currently serves on the UC Medical Center's Medical Executive Committee.
 
He is a candidate member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is actively involved in the education of orthopaedic surgery residents and hand surgery fellows.  He believes in collaboration and staying on the cutting edge to provide the best patient care.  He continues to stay abreast of new technology and techniques and actively participates in research to help further the field with the goal of exceptional patient care and outcomes.
