The Simulation Center at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine supports the training of thousands of health care professions from the UC community and beyond. If you are seeking new and innovative ways to make educational encounters come alive, then you have come to the right place.
The Simulation Center offers a variety of resources and programs to help learners of all types develop the competence and confidence they need to succeed in their chosen profession.

We invite you to explore our Center and discover for yourself how education through simulation, technology and teamwork can expand your educational programs beyond what you thought was possible.

  • Low Fidelity Simulators (Task Trainers)

Low fidelity Simulators, also called Task Trainers, provide the learner the opportunity to learn, practice and become comfortable with specific clinical skills in the safety of the simulated environment prior to encountering patients in the clinical setting. Third-year clerkships in the College of Medicine utilize the Simulation Center to provide opportunities to teach the basic skills required for a particular rotation in a specific specialty, such as pediatrics, internal medicine, psychiatry, surgery and family medicine.

  • Human Simulation (Standardized Patients)

Human Simulators, referred to as Standardized Patients (SP's) simplest terms, are people trained to provide the opportunity for a health care learner to learn, practice and become proficient/competent in history taking, physical exam and communication skills.
SP's are fully trained prior to encounters with learners to ensure they are able to accurately and completely present a patient's story. In addition standardized patients are trained to assess a learner's ability using case specific checklists and also provide either written or verbal feedback based on set criteria. The use of standardized patient encounters provides a safe environment for learners as they master clinical skills.

  • High Fidelity Simulator (Sim Man)

The SimMan is a portable and advanced patient simulator for team training. SimMan has realistic anatomy and clinical functionality, which provides simulation-based education to challenge and test students' clinical and decision-making skills during realistic patient care scenarios. SimMan includes well-proven software and an interactive technologically advanced manikin, allowing learners to practice the emergency treatment of patients.
