Professional Summary

After receiving his bachelor's degree in German Language and Cultures from Ohio State University in 2007, Matthew spent a year as a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant at Wolkenberg Gymnasium in Michendorf, Germany. Following a two-year hiatus, Matthew returned to German Studies, joining the University of Cincinnati's department in his home town in 2010 and earning his M.A. in 2012 with his thesis, "K. Stays in the Picture: Filming the Novels of Franz Kafka." Matthew attained Ph.D. candidacy in 2014 for his dissertation on the exotic in DEFA and New German Cinema Documentaries between 1961 and 1989. His further research interests include: Weimar period film and literature as well as adaptation theory. Additionally, Matthew continues to enhance his pedagogy by serving as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in second year German language courses, where he is developing a "flipped hybrid" curriculum for the second year sequence. He is also pursuing certification from the university's Preparing Future Faculty Program.
