Professional Summary
Personal Statement
It was an outreach program in Eastern Kentucky that had the biggest impact on me. Hazard, Kentucky, a small Appalachian town, had just been ravaged by a flood. In response, University of Kentucky Global Ophthalmology held an outreach clinic there, and one patient stood out to me. As he got his new pair of glasses, he started to break down crying. He began sharing his story, and we learned that while saving his kids from the flood, he lost his glasses and was blinded for two weeks. By providing him with a new pair of glasses, we had become a beacon of hope for him. Ophthalmology had brought me full circle to what drove me to become a physician in the first place.
Why I Chose Cincinnati
I had lived my whole life in Kentucky, and while I love the state, I knew I needed to go somewhere else for residency. When I interviewed at Cincinnati, it just felt like home, but also would allow me to still live close to my actual home in Kentucky. I got along with all the residents I spoke to on my interview day, and the ophthalmology program had everything I was looking for, so I knew it was the perfect place for me to do residency, and I am blessed I was lucky enough to match here.
