Rachel Bensman: Rachel is from Ohio State University where she received the Gold Humanism, Professionalism, Leadership and a number of merit scholarships. Her undergraduate degree was a BS in Biology and French Language. During her undergraduate studies at Xavier University in Cincinnati, she also did a semester at the Sorbonne in Paris, and graduated as valedictorian. During her undergraduate time she did research at Cincinnati Children's Hospital on the effects of MDMA on the developing brain in a rat model. As a medical student Rachel also did 3 international rotations in South Africa, Honduras and Malawi. The Malawi experience included work in a pilot study for students to provide longitudinal with a local health care provider and this is supported by a Child Family Health Grant. She has basic proficiency in Spanish and near fluency in French. Rachel's passion for international medicine and the care of the underserved shows her commitment to the selfless service of others!
