Hugo Biondo

Hugo is an architect, interior designer, educator, and Adjunct Professor of Architecture at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP), School of Architecture and Interior Design (SAID), where he teaches architecture design studios. His practice and teaching focus on the relationship between design vision, master planning, technical execution, and the realities of architectural practice across commercial, hospitality, residential, and institutional environments. Today, he contributes to capital renewal and campus planning initiatives at Xavier University and directs architecture and design commissions through his practice, machina, with a primary focus on custom single-family and multifamily residential projects.

Hugo began his formal design education at the Instituto de Diseño de Caracas, where he completed a three-year Diploma in Interior Design in 2006. He subsequently earned a five-year Professional Degree in Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the Universidad Central de Venezuela in 2011. Early in his studies, his design work earned academic recognition when his second-semester studio project was awarded First Place in Category I at the X Edición del Premio AXIS (2005), the EACRV’s annual Design Excellence Award, evaluated by external professional and academic juries.

His professional and academic career began in Caracas, where, following his interior design education, he joined the faculty of the Instituto de Diseño de Caracas and taught interior design studios. From 2007 to 2013, he founded and led an independent interior design practice focused on residential and commercial projects before relocating to the United States.

In Miami, FL, Hugo joined Revuelta Architecture International during the city’s significant development and construction boom of the mid-2010s, contributing to luxury high-rise residential, multifamily, and hospitality developments. This period provided firsthand experience within a rapidly evolving market characterized by large-scale development, complex construction, and increasingly sophisticated design demands. He later joined Saladino Design Studios, working across commercial and hospitality projects, including leading the design of three signature restaurant concepts aboard Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas. Working within the highly specialized environment of cruise-ship design required adaptability to distinct materials, construction methods, life-safety requirements, and operational constraints, reinforcing the importance of versatility in translating design intent across different architectural contexts.

Bridging independent practice, corporate design firms, and higher education, Hugo has developed an approach to architecture and teaching grounded in collaboration, technical execution, and the ability to navigate the strategic and entrepreneurial dimensions of practice. His commitment to the built environment extends beyond professional work through his civic and community engagement as a member of the Devou Park Advisory Committee in Covington, Kentucky, where he resides with his family.
