Personal Statement
Coaching for the Northern Kentucky Dolphins Special Olympics swim team challenged me to be an advocate, not just for a single individual, but for an entire community. Swimming is one of the most difficult sports and can be even more challenging for swimmers with varying abilities. One swimmer I worked with started the season requiring a flotation band and my assistance to swim just half a lap. I gradually implemented new drills and increased his distance over time, and by the end of the season, he was able to swim two laps unassisted. Watching him and all of the other swimmers improve each week and accomplish new goals at their swim meets was one of my most rewarding experiences. Similar to how swimmers possess a wide range of skills, patients have a wide range of acuity and complexity. Being a swim coach has taught me how to meet people where they are and adapt my strategies to help them succeed, a mindset I will apply to guiding patients through uncertainty.

Why I Chose Cincinnati
Having grown up in the tri-state area surrounded by a large family, Cincinnati has always been home to me. Because I hope to build my career in Cincinnati, it was important for me to train within the same community and patient population I hope to serve in the future.
