Professional Summary
Professor Burge holds an MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University (1991). In 2025 she took on the role of Associate Dean of Faculty and Academic Affairs in DAAP. From 1992 until 2024, She was a faculty member in the School of Art, teaching courses that ranged from seminars on landscape to animation. She works in a variety of media, including painting, film, installation and quiltmaking. Her quilt work has been widely commissioned and collected, and was included in two Quilt National exhibitions. For this work she has been awarded multiple Ohio Arts Council grants, a Joan Mitchell Foundation award, and residencies at the Headlands Center for the Arts, the Fine Art Work Center in Provincetown, and the Joan Mitchell Center in New Orleans.
Burge also works collaboratively in several creative teams. In 2006 she formed a collaborative animation group called The Dozens. Their work premiered at the Fringe Festival in Edinboro, Scotland, and has been in several national and international film festivals. Her collaborative Maidens of the Cosmic Body Running exhibited at the Contemporary Art Center in Cincinnati (2011) and at New Harmony Indiana (2014) in celebration of their biennial. In 2022 they completed a year-long residency at the Summit Hotel in Cincinnati.
She is currently executing projects with the Maidens, her personal work, and on a new collaborative graphic novel about 19th century journalist Lafcadio Hearn.
