Professional Summary

Rusty Burge is Professor of Percussion at CCM. He is also a member of Percussion Group Cincinnati with whom he has performed extensively throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Recent performances include the Japan World Drum Festival, Chinese International Music Festival, Taipei International Percussion Convention, the Ravinia Festival and numerous PASIC Conventions. He was formerly principal percussionist with the West Virginia Symphony. He received his undergraduate degree from the Eastman School of Music and a masters degree from CCM. Mr. Burge is a Yamaha and Vic Firth performing artist. He is also a member of the Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame with Percussion Group Cincinnati.

Professor Burge teaches percussion, jazz vibraphone and directs the CCM Percussion Ensemble/Steel Band. He is an active jazz vibraphonist who has recorded for Summit, J Curve Records, CBS Masterworks and Telarc. He has recent performed with Peter Erskine, Ted Nash, Rich Perry, Dave Liebman, Rufus Reid, Steve Allee, Roland Vazquez and Michael Spiro, His latest recording The Rusty Burge Organ Trio was released in October of 2024. Professor Burge also released a new book New Adventures: Ten Pieces for Vibraphone in the fall of 2021.
