Research and Practice Interests

My research is in the investigation of humoral factors which regulate uterine blood flow in both pregnant and nonpregnant animals.

This includes the investigation of the mechanism by which estrogen increases uterine blood flow, evaluation of factors which increase and sustain blood flow during pregnancy, and evaluation of humoral changes which occur in pathophysiologic, e.g. inadequate uterine blood flow in pregnancy. Resultant decreases result in reduced fetal growth in utero.

I have developed model of intrauterine growth restriction to determine the effects on the fetus and placenta. Humoral agents currently being studied include polypeptides, prostaglandins, sex hormones and nitric oxide synthase isoforms.

Additional areas of reseach include the investigation of sex steriods on regulation of vascular resistance and blood flow in reproductive tissues (uterus, vagina and mammary) as well as the heart utilizing a large animals model.
