Makayla Colby

Medical Resident/Fellow

Professional Summary

Personal Statement
My passion for internal medicine stems from my personal experiences with mistrust of medicine and a fierce drive to break these barriers for future generations. As a Kentucky native, it is both my calling and duty to serve the underserved and vulnerable populations around me. My goal is to train and eventually practice in the KY/Ohio region near family. My interest in a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology is deeply rooted in the experience of losing my maternal grandmother to metastatic lung cancer. Observing her prolonged survival through advancements in cancer treatment modalities motivated me to delve into this career path. I aspire to deliver compassionate care and enhance patient education, enabling families like mine to lead more fulfilling lives through the gift of modern medicine.

Why I Chose Cincinnati
I remember attending a meeting for the Internal Medicine interest club my first year of medical school. There was a program director on the zoom, Dr. Warm, who truly struck me by giving us insight into what their program really wanted in residents: genuine people who let their love for medicine shine through in their integrity, collegiality, and compassion for their fellow human. I never forgot this interaction, and when I interviewed at UC, I saw these characteristics reflected in every resident and faculty member I met along the way. I’m so excited to be a part of the UC family and embark on this journey of growth and learning to better our patients’ outcomes.
