Professional Summary

Matías de Paula holds a B.A. in TESOL and an M.A. in Linguistics. Originally from Oberá, Argentina, he taught ESL in K-12 and to adults for 10 years before coming to the US to get his M.A. in Linguistics. In the US he has taught a wide variety of language related courses in multiple higher education institutions, including Spanish as a Second Language, Spanish for Heritage Speakers, English as a Second Language, Advanced Grammar and Composition, Teaching Methods, Introduction to Linguistics, Translation Studies, and Bilingualism.
 
During his M.A. he conducted research in Misiones Mbyá phonology and made the first formal phonological description of this variety of the language.
 
His current interests include language acquisition in adults; different ways of facilitating Comprehensible Input (CI) to learners; developing online courses, particularly asynchronous content; language assessment, particularly following ACTFL guidelines and the CEFR framework.
 
He creates and publishes pedagogical materials in TeachersPayTeachers.com. He enjoys teaching with stories, which he includes in his language courses. This includes short stories using TPRS style lessons, and longer stories using readers of multiple levels.
