Personal Statement
After finishing our kata, I glance at my fellow karate students. Practicing martial arts encourages me to consistently reflect on the qualities I value most: connection, resilience, and the ability to lead. While helping instruct other students, I learned that leadership is never one-size-fits-all. Some people learn best by clear verbal instructions, others by closely observing my movements, and some through physical guidance. Sparring is a powerful way to practice resilience and connection. It requires a calm, focused mindset, where reactions come from instinct honed through consistent practice and attunement to your partner. Karate doesn't just teach these values; it challenges me to apply them in all areas of life. It has grounded me throughout my adult life and laid a foundation that continues to shape who I am and who I aspire to become.

Why I Chose Cincinnati
As a former medical student at the University of Cincinnati, I can think of countless reasons why I chose the internal medicine program here. I wanted a residency that would prepare me to confidently manage both common and complex medical conditions, and I knew that UCMC would provide that. The program’s strong commitment to evidence-based patient care, combined with UCMC’s exceptionally kind hospital staff, creates an excellent environment for both patients and learners. What truly made the program feel like home, however, was the compassion and dedication of the faculty and residents. The faculty genuinely enjoy working with learners, and seeing the supportive culture among residents during challenging days really reinforced the strong sense of community within the program.
