Personal Statement
Throughout medical school I volunteered at Cordoba Clinic, a student-led clinic providing free specialty care to the underinsured and underserved. As a student leader I had several patients I saw regularly, many of which had significant barriers to healthcare. Hearing their stories not only helped me appreciate how personal circumstance affects a patient’s health, but also how providers play a role helping patients navigate the healthcare system. Our clinic provided services such as medical translators, connecting patients with charities and providing medical screening services. However, there were always areas of need we could improve on addressing.  My experience at Cordoba showed me ways I can personally make a difference for my patients in the outpatient setting. This strengthened my resolve to pursue internal medicine, a specialty where I could have a dynamic career combining evidence-based medicine and detail-oriented work with caring for adult patients of all ages while providing both inpatient and outpatient care.

Why I Chose Cincinnati
During the medical school interview process I was very impressed with the resident’s passion and enthusiasm when talking about their place of training. The line on the website about understanding the difference between fitting in and belonging really resonated with me and the residents exemplified this ideal. It’s a great sign to see residents passionate about their program. Cincinnati is also a program that truly focuses on medical education, employing an evidence-based curriculum designed to foster the growth of its residents. Finally I love how fostering community health and caring for vulnerable populations is emphasized by the program.
