David Hartz is an Associate Professor in The Electronic Media Communications Department at University of Cincinnati, Blue Ash. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Akron and a Master of Fine Arts from The Ohio State University. Hartz was brought to Cincinnati from Seattle in 2002 to design and teach a Certificate of Animation. David also teaches courses in motion graphics, media design and digital photography.
Hartz was previously the owner of Hartz Art, an animator for Coffin Films, and Art Director at Smashing Ideas in Seattle, WA. He has created animations for such artists as Madonna, No Doubt, Erica Badu, and Devo. He was also a graphic artist and animator at Microsoft Corporation.
David Hartz is a very uncommon artist. He has skills in fine art drawing, painting, performance art and sculpture as well as digital art, illustration and animation.
David Hartz has an extensive international exhibition record. He has performed in Taipei, Taiwan for the Double Ten Festival and in Edmonton, Alberta for the Edmonton Fringe Festival. He has competed twice in the International Fire Sculpture Festival in Ischgl, Austria. He was commissioned to create art for Bergonnwend 2002 in Innsbruck, Austria and for the Roundhouse Community Center in Vancouver, British Columbia. In January of 2011 he was chosen to represent the USA team along with Chuck Nafsiger and Jon Zucker in the World Fire Sculpture Championship in Tallinn, Estonia.
Additionally, he has exhibited in many galleries and museum all over the United States. His hand picked team won first prize in the “New Prometheans”, Pacific Northwest Fire Sculpture Competition in Seattle, Washington.
David continues to create artwork and exhibit as well as teach his animation students at UC.”
