Professional Summary
Nanoparticle based immunomodulation offers a powerful new approach to treating obesity, cardiometabolic disease, cancer, and Autoimmune disease by reprogramming immune cell behavior in diseased tissues. Leveraging expertise in nanomedicine, biomaterials, and immunology, work in the Hassani Najafabadi lab spans multiple, tightly integrated areas. These include: (1) Designing and synthesizing targeted nanoparticle platforms to deliver small molecules and biologics to specific immune cell populations; (2) Defining how nanoparticle properties, such as size, surface chemistry, and cargo, shape immune cell phenotype, tissue inflammation, and metabolic homeostasis in vivo; and (3) Using advanced preclinical models to evaluate the mechanisms and therapeutic potential of nano immunotherapies identified in our experimental and translational studies.

Research and Practice Interests
The Hassani Lab for Immunomodulatory Nanoparticles focuses on developing new strategies to treat dysregulated immune responses, including obesity, autoimmune disease, and cancer, by integrating two enabling disciplines: nanotechnology and immune engineering.
