Ph.D.: University of Wisconsin Madison, 1998 (Medical Microbiology and Immunology)

Post Doc: National Jewish Hospital and Medical Center Denver, 2002 (Immunology)

Research and Practice Interests

The overall goal of my research program is to investigate the apoptotic control of T cell homeostasis in health and disease. I have been studying T cell homeostasis for over 15 years.  I have broad training in Immunology, having completed my PhD in Medical Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  I then garnered a Howard Hughes Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Laboratory of John Kappler and Philippa Marrack in Denver, CO.  After starting my own lab, I have maintained NIH funding, obtained tenure, and  have trained graduate students and post-doctoral fellows in my laboratory, having had 7 students and fellows in my lab over the past ten years.  Together, my students have won several awards, have published several manuscripts, and have given talks at National Meetings.  As current Director of the Immunobiology Graduate Program, I have a strong interest in and commitment to Graduate Education.  Further, I have served as an ad-hoc member of several study sections, including two study sections on aging and am now a permanent member of the Cellular and Molecular Immunology-B study section.  I have also successfully managed research projects and personnel which has led to additional funding and my lab has published several publications (>40 manuscripts over the past 8 years).  In summary, I have a demonstrated track record of a vigorous and productive research program in an area of high importance to T cell Immunology.
