Professional Summary

Personal Statement
When I made the decision to pursue an internal medicine residency in the U.S. after working as a cardiologist in Japan and a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University, many people questioned my motivation. Although I have a deep appreciation for basic science, my true passion lies in identifying clinical questions that really matters to my patients and ultimately translating the scientific discoveries into clinical practice. To achieve this goal, I recognize the need to maintain a high level of activity both in clinical practice and research, an opportunity that was not available in Japan. Growth mindset has been the guiding light of my professional career. I have always strived to improve and never settling for what I have achieved. Although some may see my career path as winding, I never thought that I am deviating from my own path to growth.

Why I Chose Cincinnati
First and foremost, I have found that the clinical education offered at the University of Cincinnati is exceptional. The depth of the program, as described in "The Way We Learn" is truly unparalleled. Specifically, the concepts of "Growth Mindset" and "Patient-Centered Rounds" appealed to me so much that I couldn't envision a better place than UC to begin my journey as a physician in the U.S. Because I believe that superior clinical education invariably leads to outstanding patient care, I am confident that the patient care team I will be part of will be among the best.

Another aspect where UC stands out is the incredible support they provide to trainees, not just in the clinic but also in the research labs. Given my near-decade of research experience, I understand the significance of institutional support for success as a physician-scientist. The abundance of resources and mentorship at UC fosters my confidence that this is the place where I can realize my dream of becoming a physician-scientist in the U.S.

Furthermore, I found that Cincinnati would be the perfect city in which to raise my family. I have two sons who love sports, and everyone who knows Cincinnati has convinced me that this is the place to nurture and strengthen my family. Lastly, having lived in California for the past five years, I am eager to experience all four seasons Cincinnati has to offer!
