Personal Statement
My introduction to the world of medicine was an accident. After planning to work as a Spanish translator at a non-profit medical clinic with a local dentist, I was disappointed to hear I would, instead, be working for a retired family medicine physician. As a pre-dental student with no ties to the world of medicine, I geared up for a disappointing summer. Instead, I was surprised by what I found; despite the language barrier, this physician was able to immediately gain trust and build relationships with patients in a way I had not previously observed. After watching him impact so many lives by treating not only the whole body, but addressing his patients' social and economic concerns, I easily made the decision to leave dentistry behind and turned my attention to a life in medicine.

Why I Chose Cincinnati
University of Cincinnati stood out on the interview trail for numerous reasons, however one thing led to my decision to come to Cincinnati for the next portion of my medical training: their dedication to teaching residents and forming the next generation of IM physicians. UC utilizes a framework of “Growth Mindset”, ensuring all learners leave residency with the tools not only to be a great doctor but also to keep learning throughout their career. Residents are fulling bought in to the programs Growth Mindset framework and I could really tell the residents felt a deep sense of community with each other. Their long block also provides the perfect amount of continuity in the outpatient setting that I was looking for and the city of Cincinnati is an exciting, growing city my wife and I were thrilled to move to and explore!
