Jonathan Kregor

Jonathan Kregor is a musicologist specializing in music of the long nineteenth century. His research interests include aesthetics, Franz Liszt, musical adaptation, virtuosity and gender, and critical editing. His scholarship has appeared in The Journal of Musicology, The Musical Quarterly, Nineteenth-Century Music Review, MusikTheorie: Zeitschrift für Musikwissenschaft, Journal of the American Liszt Society, and Notes, as well as edited collections like Gabriel Fauré: Influences and Influence, Hector Berlioz and His World, and Clara Schumann Studies. He is a recipient of fellowships and awards from the German Historical Institute, the Stiftung Weimarer Klassik, the ASCAP Foundation, the Weill Foundation, and the NEH.

Kregor is the author of Liszt as Transcriber (Cambridge University Press, 2010), which won the Alan Walker Book Award from the American Liszt Society, and Program Music (Cambridge University Press, 2015). He edited Programme Music in the Long Nineteenth Century: Practices, Controversies, Legacies (Brepols, 2018) and co-edited Liszt et le France: Musique, culture et société dans l’Europe du xixe siècle (Vrin, 2012). He has edited volumes of C.P.E. Bach's keyboard music (Packard Humanities Institute), Clara Schumann's unpublished arrangements for solo piano (A-R Editions), and Liszt's piano arrangements (Editio Musica Budapest). Between 2012 and 2022 he served as editor of the Journal of the American Liszt Society.

Kregor served as interim dean of CCM from July 1, 2022, through July 31, 2024.
