Research and Practice Interests

Annulla Linders is an Associate Professor of Sociology. She is co-Editor with Earl Wright II and Derrick Brooms of Social Problems, the official journal of the Sociaty for the Study of Social Problems (SSSP). Her research interests are in culture, politics, historical sociology, social movements, and qualitative sociology. Recent publications have appeared in Deviant Behavior, Gender & Society, Historical Sociology, Law & Society Review, Qualitative Sociology, Qualitative Sociology Review, Sociological Forum, Sociological Inquiry, and Social Problems. Current research activities involve capital punishment in the United States, and include a book project tentatively titled “In Search of the Perfect Executions Audience." This projects approaches capital punishment as a cultural institution with immense symbolic force and uses the audience of executions as an entrypoint into understanding the transformation of the American execution event and the widespread contention that has accompanied capital punishment for the last two centuries.
