Professional Summary

I was initially trained as a molecular and cell biologist during my graduate career.  At that time, and during a short post-doctorate, I learned the anatomical sciences.  From there, I began teaching anatomical sciences to medical students at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.  Although I teach all the anatomical sciences, my main areas of expertise are embryology and histology.  Several years after I began teaching at UCCOM, I was appointed Course Director for the Histology and Cell Biology course (formerly Microscopic Anatomy).  With the roll-out of the new curriculum, I direct courses that are now titled Blood and Cardiovascular, Renal and Pulmonary, and Multisystems (Renal and Pulmonary now headed by a colleague).   I still teach anatomical sciences in all the other blocks, and have been instrumental in converting most of our histology content to online learning modules.  In addition, I teach Embryology and Teratology for the Genetic Counseling Program; the Embryology course is part of the new Undergraduate Program in Medical Sciences.  I also teach Anatomy and Physiology at UCBlueAsh in the evenings.  My research focuses on using technology to create modules that enhance student learning; for example, the above-mentioned histology modules, as well as animations depicting embryonic development, and cartilage and bone formation.
