Personal Statement
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected everyone differently, and it has pushed me outside of my comfort zone in ways that I would not have thought possible. Whether it was completing my first internal medicine rotation at a rural community hospital where mask hesitancy was exceptionally prevalent, watching patients say goodbye to their loved ones over FaceTime, or seeing my husband deploy to Africa and Europe during their darkest times to provide aid, the pandemic has forced me to grow as both a medical professional and as a person. I learned how to show empathy through my eyes, as the masks hid a considerable amount of my emotions.
Why I Chose Cincinnati
I was initially drawn to UC due to the customizability of the curriculum. As someone who was initially torn between neurology and internal medicine specialties, I wanted to train at an IM program that allowed me to spend some elective time in the NSICU and on the neurology floors. However, choosing UC became an easy decision during my interview, as it was clear that there was a unique sense of positivity and camaraderie between the residents that I was excited to be a part of.
