Professional Summary

DR. ROBERT MCNAMARA is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Dr. McNamara received his PhD from the University of Victoria, Canada, and then completed postdoctoral training in neuropsychopharmacology at Northwestern University and University of Florida before receiving a junior faculty position in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He then moved to Eli Lilly and Company to the Clinical Neuroscience Laboratories where he received additional training in antidepressant research and clinical trial development. He then accepted an Associate Professor position in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati, and is presently in the Division of Bipolar Disorders Research. His laboratory investigates the role of omega-3 fatty acid deficiency in the pathoetiology of recurrent neuropsychiatric disorders using animal models, postmortem brain tissue, and preclinical and clinical neuroimaging techniques. His lab is currently investigating the effects of omega-3 fatty acid supplementation on functional brain activation patterns and symptom severity in children and adolescents with recurrent affective disorders, including major depression and bipolar disorder.
