Personal Statement
In internal medicine, teamwork extends beyond physician collaboration. Education and outreach through public health is vital for community awareness, protection of vulnerable populations, and improving quality of life. Internists serve as the connection from the inside walls of a hospital to the outside world. I have an inkling for high acuity patient care and have pursued experiences with exposure to public and critical care. As president of my medical school's Stop the Bleed chapter, I taught community members how to stop life-threatening bleeding. I saw the value in my work when speaking with participants. One woman shared that when her nephew was shot, her family did not know how to stop the bleeding, and he eventually died. Another participant was inspired to take the course after witnessing how the use of a tourniquet in a bar shooting saved a person's life. These post-workshop conversations showed me that physicians serve as a bridge to health literacy, equipping patients with the tools they need to advocate for and take care of themselves and others. Lifelong learning and commitment to scholarly excellence is nonnegotiable, and I believe it's also important to make this knowledge accessible to others.

Why I Chose Cincinnati
When the program director talked about this residency during interview day, I remember thinking to myself “wow, UC really wants to know the ‘why’ of medicine and not just accept things at surface level.” I valued the effort they put into team collaboration, building strong patient rapport, and genuinely looking out for the people they serve. It was obvious that they treat the whole person and not just the disease. During Second Look Day, I also felt a personal sense of community from the current residents and staff. I know that I will be supported here as I continue to develop personally and professionally. I am very excited to continue my training at UC!
