Personal Statement
A mentor of mine once told me, “You need to love the science of medicine before you can learn to love the art.” He talked about how his love for cardiac physiology in medical school inspired him to become a cardiologist. This conversation inspired me to reflect on where I found my passion for the science of medicine. As a competitive runner in high school and college, I focused on ways to improve myself as an athlete to consistently surpass my personal records. I educated myself about the physiology of the cardiovascular system and soon after purchased my first stethoscope. My fascination with the heart led me to shadow a cardiologist during my freshman year of college. After just a few short weeks my mind was made up – I was going to become a physician. Upon completing my shadowing experience, my mentor left me with a piece of parting advice that has remained with me since: the best cardiologists begin their careers as the best internists.

Why I Chose Cincinnati
I chose the University of Cincinnati for its reputation for producing strong clinicians, excellent faculty, research opportunities, and my positive experience with the residents during my interviews. Cincinnati has a remarkable cityscape with a low cost of living, interesting neighborhoods, and cultural experiences, and (most importantly to me) an excellent food scene. It is a fantastic place to live and train, and I was drawn to the prospect of being surrounded by a good group of like-minded individuals.
