Professional Summary
Personal Statement
"As physicians, we live in the nuances," my attending reminded me as we reviewed the details of our patient's case. This statement ultimately guided my decision to pursue internal medicine, emphasizing the importance of attending to the smallest details while providing compassionate care. It also mirrors values I established during my time in wedding coordination. When looking at an event room, one crooked fork might be dismissed, but in the wedding industry, we thrived through consideration of these details. As a bridal hostess, each evening brought its own disarray yet simultaneous harmony, as I coordinated with my manager and fellow servers to ensure the colloquially known "best day" of our couple's life was wonderfully memorable. I quickly realized that, in internal medicine, similar attentiveness and teamwork are essential for excellent patient care.
Why I Chose Cincinnati
I chose the University of Cincinnati because this program embodies the values I hope to cultivate as a new physician. At the University of Cincinnati, compassionate patient-centered care is not just a formality, it is embedded into the culture of daily practice. Patients are actively included in rounds, and cases are thoughtfully discussed during educational activities, with special attention paid to the patient's physical and emotional experiences. As an osteopathic medical student, I was trained in a whole-person approach that considers not only the body, but also the mind and spirit. At UC, I could tell that this same philosophy was embraced by the entire healthcare team, resulting in care that respects patient autonomy and promotes holistic well-being.
