Professional Summary

Personal Statement
Although I love the practice of general internal medicine, the academic culture within the field has strongly influenced my decision to pursue this path. It’s clear that teaching is not only a necessary component due to the breadth and complexity of disease states but also a valued and enjoyable aspect of the job. Throughout my academic career, I have always been drawn to activities that involve teaching. For three years, I volunteered with CityLab, a large community outreach program for high school students where our goal was to inspire an interest in science through engaging presentations and laboratory experiments. I loved using creative, evidence-based teaching methods and challenging myself to maximize student learning by increasing engagement with the material. When I served as the executive director of CityLab, I enjoyed being able to further implement these strategies by helping volunteers build their teaching skills. As a soccer coach, I built on my experiences in teaching while also learning to motivate and instill confidence in my team. I look forward to using these skills during my training and growing as an educator.

Why I Chose Cincinnati
There are so many reasons why the University of Cincinnati felt like the right place to continue my training. I am looking forward to the many opportunities to grow as a medical educator through research, the medical education track, and learning from highly accomplished educators such as Dr. Warm. Although there is a clear focus on education, I love that the training experience is truly structured to be patient-centered. And having known residents in the program and meeting others during my interview, I am so excited to be a part of this supportive, tight-knit community.
