Professional Summary
Allie Pohler (she/her) earned her Ph.D. in Classical Philology in Spring 2024. She specializes in Roman comedy researching questions of gender, class, trauma, and enslavement. Her dissertation, “Terence’s Offstage Virgo: The (De)construction of a Stock Character,” investigates the ways in which comic stock characters construct differing versions of an offstage virgo informed by their own interests and identity (civic status, gender). Her teaching and research interests include Roman comedy, Greek New Comedy, Greek and Roman novel, and Latin poetry. She holds an M.A. in Classical Philology from the University of Cincinnati. She received her B.A. in Classics and B.S. in Psychology from Grand Valley State University.
