Professional Summary

Ann M. Porter retired from CCM on Aug. 1, 2022. She taught public school instrumental music at various levels in Kentucky and also served previously on the faculty at California State University at Hayward as associate director of bands and a professor in the Music Education Division. Her former teachers include Craig Kirchoff, Richard Suddendorf, James Croft, Clifford Madsen, and Patrick Dunnigan.

She has been published in Journal of Research in Music Education, Instrumentalist, Music Educators Journal, Triad and other professional journals. During her time in California, she also served as the higher education representative for the California Music Educators Bay Section Association. In Ohio, she was a Past President of OMEA District 14.

Porter is active as a guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator with school bands and with regional, district, and state honor bands. She has given conference presentations at national and state levels and has served on the editorial board for Contributions. Furthermore, she is the founder of the Cincinnati Junior Youth Wind Ensemble and was conductor of the high school-level Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble through Summer 2022.
