Professional Summary
Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing since August 2016, teaching undergraduate and graduate leadership and clinical courses. Interim Associate Dean for Graduate Programs since 2022, providing oversight of 26 academic programs with over 1700 students generating $27 million in revenue; supervision of 70 full-time faculty and adjunct faculty. Director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice program from 2018-2022, ensuring academic quality and consistency during a period of over 300% growth. Dual-hatted as Director of Evaluation from 2017-2022, creating and sustaining a comprehensive evaluation program for the entire College.
Retired from the U.S. Army in 2016 at the rank of Colonel. Simultaneous experience as a Chief Nursing Officer and Family Nurse Practitioner—resulting in real‐world knowledge of the needs and challenges that exist for nurses, physicians, pharmacists, and business managers. History of success driving efficiency, safety, patient satisfaction, and compliance for organizations with annual budgets up to $180M. People‐oriented individual with a lead‐from‐the‐front management style. Multidisciplinary leadership in ambulatory and inpatient settings for in/outpatient and operative nursing services, pharmacy, quality management, preventive medicine, laboratory services, radiology, and education. Deployed to Somalia in 1993 and Kuwait in 2005.
A subject matter expert on the history of Army nursing and the history of the Army Medical Department. Co-edited the book Answering the Call: The U.S. Army Nurse Corps, 1917-1919. Published original research that identified and told the stories of the first three women known to be eligible to wear the Silver Star Medal, resulting in the posthumous awarding of the medal to the families. Has lectured both nationally and internationally and published on a wide variety of additional history of military medicine and primary care topics. A Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
