Personal Statement
"What is health? A right? A privilege? A commodity?" These are the questions my professor, and later my mentor, posed to a group of freshmen on our first day of class. He knew we were all on a path into the medical field, and his goal was to help us understand the roots of the profession and how it had evolved. This class opened my eyes to a new reality—social determinants of health, barriers to access, life expectancies determined by zip codes—and ignited a passion for service and outreach. Many of our patients face complex barriers such as lack of transportation, low socioeconomic status and health literacy, and cultural beliefs that may align against clinical practices. I have learned how to sift through the layers of complexity and have developed my cultural competency, gained a better understanding of needs, abilities, and limitations, and have evolved in my approach to patient care.

Why I Chose Cincinnati
I chose Cincinnati because from the very beginning, I felt that the program genuinely cared for me and was invested in my future. Dr. Warm took the time to get to know me as a candidate, which made a significant impression on me. The program went above and beyond to create a day for me to be able to visit the school. Everyone I met during my visit was incredibly kind, creating an inviting and supportive atmosphere. I resonate deeply with the program's values, which emphasize fostering an environment for growth and providing individualized feedback to support us in becoming the doctors we aspire to be. Additionally, the residents were amazing, embodying the qualities I seek to develop in myself. Becoming a part of this program feels like joining a family. I know, when I graduate, I will be confident in my abilities to deliver high quality care and will have the tools necessary to accomplish my goals.
