Professional Summary
Personal Statement
As a teacher at an underserved, inner-city school, I saw the challenges my students faced every day that made it hard to succeed academically. I realized that in order to overcome these barriers, I would have to dig deeper to understand what made them tick and how they learned best. Despite the daily setbacks I encountered, I enjoyed discovering the subtleties of my students' personalities and in doing so became a better educator. The satisfaction of building these relationships was thwarted by the brief time I had with each student. My desire for longitudinal interaction where I could make a more substantial impact led me to pursue a medical degree. In medical school, I was drawn to the field of Internal Medicine, where successful care often hinges on subtle, intangible patient factors.
Why I Chose Cincinnati
I was introduced to the University of Cincinnati Internal Medicine Residency Program through one of my attendings who shared their website as a model for demonstrating patient-centered rounds. After learning more about the program and its philosophy, I realized it was a perfect fit for me! The emphasis on growth mindset and improvement science along with the opportunities in medical education made it a clear top choice for my training. In addition, being relatively close to my hometown of Cleveland while also exploring a new city makes it all the more exciting!
