Professional Summary

Michael Romanos, AICP, is a professor of Planning and Economic Development at the University of Cincinnati School of Planning, and the Director of the Center for Research in Urban Development. From 1984 to 1988 Professor Romanos was Director of the University of Cincinnati School of Planning, a member of the Executive Committee of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning, and a member of the Accreditation Panel of the American Institute of Certified Planners. From 1990 to 1992 he was Senior Advisor for Urban and Regional Development to the Minister of Economic Planning of the Republic of Indonesia. During that period he also served as advisor to the United States Agency for International Development, Jakarta office, and lectured extensively in several countries of South and Southeast Asia. During the 1994-95 academic year he was a Fulbright Senior Professor at the Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia. Romanos has conducted research, consulted and lectured in Brazil, Denmark, Greece, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Kuwait, Nepal, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Spain, Thailand, and Vietnam. He has held visiting faculty appointments at the University of Rome, Cornell University, the Asian Institute of Technology, Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, the Bandung Institute of Technology, and Gadjah Mada University in Indonesia. He also served as a Trustee of the University of Aegean in Greece, from 1986 to 1996. Since 1995, Romanos has been the leader of the University of Cincinnati Sustainable Development Group, and with funding from the U.S. Information Agency, the State of Ohio, the University of Cincinnati, the German Foreign Aid Program, academic institutions and local government agencies from Thailand, Indonesia, and Greece he has trained numbers of faculty and students in sustainable development through overseas field work projects.
