Research and Practice Interests
My research and expertise includes the following:Clinical, molecular, biochemical, genetic, population genetic, and prenatal diagnostic studies of sickle cell anemia and related abnormalities of human hemoglobin. Interests also include patient education, compliance with medical management, and the sociology of prenatal diagnosis. Studies include correlation of physiologic properties of sickled red cells with clinical severity of sickle cell anemia. Methods for prenatal diagnosis of thalassemia and hemoglobinopathis are being developed.
