Professional Summary

Dr Hilja Ruegg is an Assistant Professor with a dual appointment in the departments of Psychiatry & Behavioral Neuroscience and Family & Community Medicine.  She received her BA from Mount Holyoke College in Russian and Eurasian Studies in South Hadley, Massachuesttes in 2000. Prior to attending medical school in 2007 she worked internationally with a non-profit promoting community based women's health and education work in Afghanistan followed by program management in a Federally Qualified Community Health Center in Western Massachussetts.  After obtaining her MD at Marshall University School of Medicine in 2011 she completed a residency in combined training in Family Medicine and Psychiatry, graduating in 2016.  She is board certified in both Family Medicine and Psychiatry.  She serves as the Program Director for the Combined Traning Residency at the University of Cincinnati since 2016.  Her areas of interest include medical and mental health care for underserved populations and the development of service delivery models for integrated mental health and primary care.  She is also interested in the integration of addiction medicine in primary care.
