Katherine Rose Sabourin

Katherine R Sabourin, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology in the Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences. Her research leverages advanced statistical methods and innovative laboratory assays to investigate the epidemiology of oncogenic viruses and the cancers that they cause, with a particular focus on Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) and Kaposi's sarcoma. She has over a decade of experience working in infectious disease and cancer epidemiology, with a focus on research in low- and middle-income countries, primarily in sub-Saharan Africa. She is currently a Visiting Scientist at the UK Medical Research Council Uganda/ Uganda Virus Research Institute (MRC/UVRI). Her work is highly collaborative, involving partnerships with virologists, immunologists, biostatisticians, clinicians, public health practitioners, social scientists, and dentists. The overall goal of her program is to identify points of intervention to prevent morbidity and mortality from cancers caused by oncogenic viruses in low- and middle-income countries.
