Professional Summary
Franklin Sandoval is a Salvadoran-American cellist from Fort Lauderdale, Florida who is currently a Suzuki Cello Instructor at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory Preparatory Department. He is also currently earning his Doctorate of Musical Arts Degree at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music as an Albert C. Yates Fellow in the studio of Alan Rafferty. In 2023, he earned a Master’s degree in Music Performance from Miami University, where he served as Dr. Sarah Kim’s graduate teaching assistant. In 2021, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance as a first-generation college student at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida, under the tutelage of Dr. Nick Curry, where he also served as a teaching assistant.
Fluent in both English and Spanish, he is a registered cello instructor through the Suzuki Association of the Americas. Sandoval has taught and performed at several festivals and organizations such as the New World Symphony, The Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, The CIM Cello Audition Intensive, the Cincinnati Young Artists Academy, the Jacksonville Cello Workshop, the Meadowmount School of Music multiple summers, and most recently as a Teaching Fellow at the Interlochen Center for the Arts Camp.
Franklin Sandoval has won several awards such as the “Outstanding Undergraduate Musician” award from The UNF School of Music in 2017-2021; the UNF Orchestra Concerto Competition in both 2018 and 2020; and the Miami University Concerto Competition in 2023.
Franklin Sandoval’s research includes the history of music from countries from Latin America, specifically El Salvador. He has so far premiered many compositions for cello by Latin composers and continues to extend his research on music regarding topics of immigration, equality, and inclusion.
