Research and Practice Interests

My research focuses on Neuroaudiology. Specifically, I am researching central auditory processing pathways and attempting to determine specific generator sites of Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) waveforms on EEG in animals. A research piority is auditory and vocal mechanism pathologies in canines, equines and marine mammals  with emphasis on Special, Operations military working dogs (MWDs) as well as Canine and human Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome Injury (C-PTSI) auditory processing pathologies and diagnosing auditory processing disorders. In addition, I am researching auditory processing mechanisms in canines and beluga whales in the ultrasonic bands and in noise. This research entails using auditory evoked potentials and event-related potentials and imaging techniques to determine the neural pathways for signal-in-noise processing in these animals. Lastly, the research entails determining the effects of noise on animals and mitigation measures for captive habitat settings, specifically kennel noise mitigation and military canine hearing protection devices and hearing aids for canines.

Noise mitigation in kennels, aquaria and vivaria
Animal audiology and MWD  Canine PTSD
Amplification for canines
Naval sonar systems and bioacoustic impacts
Lombard Vocal Response in animals (models for human reflexes)
Baseline animal hearing and sound production research (models for human metrics)
Mapping of Auditory Cortex and Central Auditory System; Cetacean and Human
Acoustic mapping of pool systems in Aquaria for marine mammals & fish
Electrophysiological Methods in Animal Hearing Assessment
Aquatic Animal Hearing and Sound Production
