Thomas C. Scherz

Thomas Scherz is an AI Engineer at the University of Cincinnati, specializing in artificial intelligence platforms, open-source technologies, and digital innovation for higher education. He is a developer on BearcatGPT, the university’s large language model (LLM) initiative, which brings secure, campus-wide generative AI capabilities to faculty, staff, and students.

Before moving to DTS, Thomas focused on the design and implementation of scalable, flexible repository solutions for digital scholarship, research data management, and long-term preservation while working at University Libraries.  His expertise developing Scholar@UC, an institutional repository, includes software architecture, system integration, and continuous integration deployments. Thomas is dedicated to advancing collaborative innovation, ethical AI adoption, and the principles of open source to benefit the University of Cincinnati and the broader academic community.
