Personal Statement
I believe that it is incredibly important for internal medicine physicians to possess the ability to empathize with patients, as the hospital is an anxiety inducing environment. I remember being surprised by the level of apprehension I felt while waiting for surgery after rupturing my Achilles, despite having 3 years of medical education. This experience has cemented the importance of ensuring that a caring and trusting relationship is formed with every patient and their family. Coincidentally, I work very hard to connect with my patients on a genuine and authentic level. I am proud of the patient relationships I have already begun to form, and I know it will continue to be a prominent part of my practice as a future physician.
Why I Chose Cincinnati
The growth mindset and focus on resident assessment and feedback of the program will push me to become a more competent and confident physician, with a focus on self-reflection and problem solving rather than strictly knowing pathophysiology and pharmacology. With multiple mentorship and coaching programs in place, I know that I will be wholly supported within my chosen career path. Long Block will give me the opportunity to explore my options, provide continuity, a variety of pathology, and build my application for the future. I also dream of getting involved with a residency program as teaching faculty or program director in the future, so the Clinical Educator Pathway will allow me to continue building on my background on leadership and develop my teaching skills. Most importantly, during my interview, it was abundantly clear that the faculty and staff care for the residents as if they were their own family.
