Research and Practice Interests

My research involves drugs which induce congenital malformations when administered to pregnant mammals. Specifically those drugs which induce limb malformations (such as aspirin, acetazolamide and alcohol) are under intense scrutiny. We hope to find the alterations that these drugs produce in embryonic tissues which subsequently lead to abnormal development. Currently we are studying intracellular pH as the mediator of abnormal development in response to one of the above-mentioned drugs.
