Soma Sengupta is Harold C. Schott Endowed Chair of Brain Tumor Research and Co-Director of the University of Cincinnati Gardner Neuroscience Institute.

Soma Sengupta is an adult Neuro-oncologist. She has an active laboratory that has multiple research focuses including adult (GBM, melanoma brain mets), pediatric brain tumors (medulloblastoma), and drug delivery technology.
Current Clinical Focus and Interests
Most of Soma Sengupta’s patients include patients with glioblastomas newly diagnosed or those with recurrent disease. Patients with genetic syndromes such as neurofibromatosis, tuberous sclerosis. In addition, Dr. Sengupta has a broad range of interests, and has collaborated with medical oncologists to co-manage secondary brain tumors.

Summary of Background/Previous Work History, Education and Achievements
Soma Sengupta has adult and some pediatric clinical training in neuro-oncology and extensive research training established a solid foundation for pursuit of translational research on primary and metastatic brain tumors. Dr. Sengupta has a long-standing research interest in structure-function of clinically important membrane transport proteins. She has conducted genetic and biochemical research on transporters (antifungal resistance; antigen processing; channels critical to neuronal function; channels important in cancer cells; ion pumps vital to metabolic processes). Dr. Sengupta did her Ph.D. training at the Univ. Cambridge, and post-doctoral training  (Yale, Johns Hopkins, Univ. Cambridge). For research funding, Dr. Sengupta has been continuously funded by the NIH (NINDS-R25, NCI-K12, NINDS-K08).
