Professional Summary

Renee Seward is an Endowed Associate Professor of Communication Design in the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. Reneé teaches a range of courses but primarily teaches typography. Her current research involves designing digital tools and multi-sensory typography to help young children learn to read. She is the principal investigator of the See Word Reading Project and is the creator of the See Word Reading tool, which teaches children sound/symbol correspondence.

02-2013 Ohio Board of Education 21st CCLC Summit Award Excellence in the category of Academics There were 29 submissions state wide in 5 categories and See Word Reading won for the category of Academic excellence and was awarded a trophy.

2010 -2014 Merit Pay Recipient Awarded additional pay for accomplishments in research and teaching.

2007 Turner Scholars Breakfast of Champions Awarded a teacher appreciation metal. Patience Woolridge, a Digital Design student, nomination was given to a teacher who deserves to be acknowledge for hard work and dedication.

2007 Association for the Concerns of African American Graduate Students Awarded the College of Design Academic Achievement Award for the most academically outstanding graduate student at North Carolina State University.

2006 -2007 AIGA Worldstudio Scholarship: Larson Design Scholar, New York, New York One of 17 winners nationally. Award for thesis work which demonstrates a commitment to giving back to the larger community through design research.
