Silvi Shah, MD, is an associate professor in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio. After completing her residency in Internal Medicine at the University at Buffalo, she completed her general nephrology fellowship from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Ohio followed by a transplant nephrology fellowship at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Dr. Shah completed her master's in clinical and translational research at the University of Cincinnati. She is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology.
 
Dr. Shah is a physician-scientist, and her research focuses on women’s health in kidney disease including pregnancy, sex disparities in kidney disease, cardiovascular health, and kidney disease. She is currently supported by the K23 career development award from the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Shah has authored several peer-reviewed manuscripts and has presented at various premier international and national meetings.  She is an associate editor for Advances in Chronic Kidney Disease journal and serves on the editorial board of Kidney360 and Kidney Medicine journals.
 
Dr. Shah leads the American Society of Nephrology’s “Women’s Health and Research in Nephrology” community and is an executive member of the American Society of Transplantation’s “Women’s Health Community of Practice”.  She is a member of the American Heart Association’s Kidney in Cardiovascular Disease committee and the American Society of Nephrology’s In-Training Examination Test Material Development Committee.  She has served as a councilor in Women in Nephrology. She is a fellow of the American Society of Nephrology, the American Society of Transplantation, the National Kidney Foundation, and the American College of Physicians.
 
Dr. Shah has a keen interest in medical education and has authored questions for the American Society of Nephrology’s Kidney Self-Assessment Program. She enjoys teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows.

- Dr. Shah is a transplant nephrologist in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension with expertise in women’s health and cardiovascular disease. Her other areas of expertise include kidney transplant, immunosuppression management, donor evaluation, recipient evaluation, acute and chronic kidney disease, chronic hemodialysis care, acute electrolyte, and acid/base imbalance management, and hypertension management.,
