Professional Summary
I am an aquatic ecosystem ecologist with wide-ranging research interests from resource subsidies and animal-mediated nutrient cycling to factors affecting biogeochemical cycling. Aquatic ecosystems contain a mosaic of connected habitats and gradients from headwaters to estuaries. My research interests involve elucidating how animal-mediated resource subsidies, aquatic macroinvertebrate secondary production, and nutrient cycling ecosystem services change along the river continuum and across aquatic habitats (e.g., wetlands, submerged aquatic vegetation, and bare sediment). It is critical to evaluate spatial heterogeneity in these ecosystem processes, and to measure how agents of global change, such as increased temperature and nutrient inputs, affect these processes, to establish management and conservation priorities to protect aquatic resources.
