Sachika Singh, MA, BA

Sachika is a PhD student in the Department of Sociology at the University of Cincinnati. A double Bearcat, she earned her BA (2019) and MA (2020) in Sociology at UC, while studying patient follow-up and contraceptive access as a research assistant with the Ohio Policy Evaluation Network. 
Sachika’s scholarship is grounded by critical and conflict theory. She seeks to examine how power shapes individuals' navigation of systems, and how institutions and structures can be shifted to redistribute power and promote thriving. They are particularly interested in studying these dynamics using mixed methods in relation to violence prevention, community resilience, and medical sociology. 
This research agenda is informed by years of applied work. Sachika previously consulted at GlobeMed with international, grassroots community organizations on anti-oppressive partnership and systems change. As a Clinical Research Coordinator at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Sachika collaborated with community-based organizations and hospital departments to design evidence-based, participatory, trauma-informed interventions that promoted community protective factors to reduce trauma. Portions of this work have been recognized by the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Child Abuse & Neglect, and her leadership recognized by the Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services (OhioMHAS). Sachika is now a Program Manager at Greenlight Fund, where she leads analyses that pair community voices with economic mobility data to guide investments in poverty-reduction initiatives in Cincinnati.
Sachika has created exhibit materials for the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and published in Social Science & Medicine, The Journal of Clinical Ethics, The Journal of Trauma Studies in Education, and Child Abuse & Neglect.
