Professional Summary
Dr. Smulian is an investigator recognized for his molecular characterization of Pneumocystis carinii and Histoplasma cell biology with a specific interest in in vivo organism survival. He is a member of an active clinical research program in anal dysplsia in HIV infected individuals at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center. In addition to being the Infectious Disease Division Director in the Department of Internal Medicine, he remains chief of the infectious disease section at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases and is a Fellow af the American College of Physicians, the Infectious Disease Society of America and the College of Physicians of South Africa. He is an active member of the American Society of Microbiology. He is an ad hoc reviewer for a variety of infectious disease and mycology journals. His published works include approximately 67 articles and fifteen reviews and book chapters.
