Professional Summary

I study animal models of chronic pain. I am interested in how sensory neurons undergo long-lasting changes in their electrical properties in response to various forms of injury or inflammation. Many chronic pain states seem to involve just such prolonged changes in neurons throughout the pain processing pathways.

Bachelor's Degree: Brandeis University Waltham, MA, 1977 (Biology)

Doctoral Degree: Yale University New Haven, CT, 1983 (Physiology)

Postdoctoral Fellowship: Yale University New Haven, CT, 1986 (Pharmacology)

Research and Practice Interests

Cellular and molecular basis of chronic pain, Function and regulation of receptors and ion channels, Functional genetics
